In the 70's, the Cross Bronx Expressway destroyed neighborhoods which caused the economy to go down. This happened because the rich were able to leave the neighborhood and go to their second homes, taking their wealth with them. The poor weren't able to leave and their jobs disappeared when the rich people and their businesses left the South Bronx.
